A look underground

Last week, everyone was looking up. This week, we’re looking down.

What actually happens below ground level during drilling?

Over time, we’ve collected some fascinating footage from inside our auger heads, looking directly into the ground. Here are a few of our favourite moments.

You can literally see:

  • our watertight reusable drill tip opening as retraction begins
  • the surprising colours of different soil layers
  • soft soils moving back after being displaced
  • groundwater channels suddenly flowing into the opening
  • the characteristic shape of an Olivier pile being formed
  • and so much more…

Important note: these are not actual piles being concreted. Without concrete pressure and continuous concrete flow, soil can move back or fall into the temporary opening.

Foundation technology looks very different from down there.
